Metalworking of the Early Iron Age and the Middle Ages
The purpose of the program is to introduce students to the main ancient methods of making various objects from gold, silver, copper and iron by casting, cold working and soldering. The considered techniques are reconstructed on the basis of data obtained during the examination of things by the tracological method, taking into account the physical laws of metal deformation. A visual examination of archaeological items makes it possible to identify tools and equipment used by different groups of the population on the territory of Eurasia
During the practical classes, students will be given the opportunity to experimentally simulate a number of techniques, which will be described in the lectures. Special attention will be paid to the scientific characterization of ancient products and the identification of fakes of archaeological objects.
