Dear Applicants,

It is our great pleasure to announce that the 11th Bolgar International Archeological Field School will take place from August 13 to 26, 2024 in Republic of Tatarstan, Russia

The project aims to consolidate Russian and foreign scientific and educational resources. Among other goals is a practical application of the latest scientific developments into investigation and preservation of the Eurasian cultural heritage.The School will held nearby the territory of the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex (that was declared as the World Heritage Site in 2014).

The School is co-organized by Kazan Federal University,  Khalikov Institute for Archeology of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and  Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. With the support of the International Institute of Central Asian Studies.

During the 13-day-programme of the School,you can attend workshops at one of the following field laboratories focused on:

–   Paleoanthropology (groups for beginners and advanced)
–   Archaeozoology (groups for beginners and advanced)
–   Archaeobotany and paleosurface science.

Every workshop brings together 5-10 students.  Beside the practice in laboratories, students will benefit from several lectures focusing on the key issues and methods of Archeological Heritage Research and Preservation. The School will be followed by Final Conference.  

Undergraduate and graduate students,as well as post-doctoral trainees and young researchers under the age of 45 are encouraged to apply for the School. Young scientists of any nationality and from all fields of Archeology, Arts, Anthropology and other related fields are eligible.

The languages of the School are both English and Russian. The knowledge of Russian is welcomed but not necessary.

Practical details:
– Total number of academic hours (credits) offered: 100 (4 ECTS).
– Participation is free of charge and the project will cover accommodation, food and transport (by bus) from Kazan to Bolgar.  
– Our goal is to create an international and interactive community!  

To ensure the smooth operation of the School, the organizers require the help of volunteers - volunteers who will help both at the level of individual sections and the entire School as a whole.
Volunteers do not require specialized archaeological (historical) education.
